MEIER'S SMITH HOUSE CONCEPTUAL ADDITION
Project 2
Narrative
The Smith Family wants to make an addition to their home which was previously designed by Richard Meier in 1965. They would like to add a formal outdoor space for themselves and to entertain guests while still having a beautiful view of the water. They still like to have guests over in the winter, so a family room with plenty of windows for guests to look out onto the Long Island Sound is paramount. They have also requested a brand-new master suite separate from the rest of the home to use when they have their alone time. The family room is most important because they like to spend time hosting guests and having parties. They have requested that the architectural integrity of the original designs by Meier to remain dominant, yet connected to the new deck through the family room. They prefer a high-level Master bedroom, so the master could easily be connected to the deck but also have an intimate outdoor space for themselves underneath. The family also likes to work out so an at-home gym will be added.
